The spring is located in the Teutoburg Forest, 15 monumental rocks tower steeply into the sky. This rock formation, over 70 million years old and up to 40 meters high, is called Externsteine. Many myths, legends and riddles entwine around this magical place and the traces of many centuries tell of Celtic idolatry, Germanic sanctuaries and Christian representations. As varied and different as the numerous representations, artefacts and rock reliefs may be, they all testify to the spiritual power of the place.
